Take a Look Into the Enchanting World of Sonny Angels Through the Lens of Photographer Delaney McQuown

Sonny Angels or “the little boy angel who will make you smile” created by Japanese toy maker Toru Soeya, are collectible figurines that have captured hearts worldwide – especially in the US market. Similar to other popular collectible figurines, Sonny Angels are packaged in ‘blind boxes’ so you don’t know what angel you will get until you open the box – and there are over 500 varieties of these cute little guys, adorned with different headgear and outfits, for you to collect.

Sonny Angel has made appearances on the Instagram and TikTok stories of celebrities like Bella Hadid and Victoria Beckham and even had a sketch written about them for SNL

And now, they’ve found their way into the OMS studio.

Why?

OMS Photographer, Delaney McQuown, fell in love with Sonny Angel’s on a trip to New York City where she stumbled upon them in an anime shop and was instantly hooked. Given her trip was in 2016, Delaney was a fan long before the recent Instagram influencers entered the scene – and had acquired quite a collection before the Sonny Angel shortage. Collecting the figurines has turned into a family tradition, with Sonny Angels becoming cherished gifts among McQuown members and even served as the cake topper at Delaney’s wedding this summer.

Bringing Them to Life

Delaney decided to merge her personal passions with her profession and bring the cherubs to life. And the results… were beyond adorable.

This series reminds us that sometimes… things don’t need to be so serious. That capturing a baby wearing an acorn as a hat can end up being just as interesting of a subject as a human model. Delaney’s work encourages us to embrace the small joys in life and push creative boundaries.

It’s through photographers like Delaney that we’re inspired to look beyond our usual perspectives, outside of our comfort zones and – into the eyes of the Sonny Angel.
