A Year in Review with Delaney McQuown

2024 was nothing short of extraordinary for Delaney McQuown, a powerhouse talent on the OMS Photography team. Delaney was named The World Food Photography Female Photographer of the Year (formerly known as the Pink Lady Food Photography Awards) for her captivating self-portrait piece, BLT Contemplation. This striking image is a testament to her ability to infuse artistry and emotion into even the simplest of subjects, earning her well-deserved international recognition.

Delaney also collaborated with an incredible roster of new OMS clients, bringing her signature style—a perfect balance of authenticity, beauty, and storytelling—to every project. Her fresh perspective and dedication to her craft elevated each piece of work, leaving a lasting impact on the brands she partnered with. We asked Delaney to select a few images to feature. See below for Delaney’s selections and a new callouts from the artist herself.

“I explored skincare products with chrome and glass detailing. Shooting this felt more calculated because plates were necessary. This was a good challenge for me as I usually like to float around a set.”

This photograph really pushed my ingenuity. I was at home following my London trip and I was feeling very inspired but I didn’t have any backdrops at home. The backdrop for this ended up being the velcro inserts from the inside of my camera bag!

Experimental test with mirrors and Blue Ribbon Ice Cream. I posted to Instagram and Blue Ribbon responded positively! Jack (one of our in-house retouching artists) hand-modeled for me.

“A little whimsical test shoot with my wedding shoes (which was a HUGE part of this year– I got married!)

“I shot for a polyfil brand and found inventive ways to make Polyfil stuffing “fun.” It was quite a challenge to make something that often lacks a little excitement exciting. Ella assisted me and coined a saying for my shooting approach “the vision is in the vision state..the vision is visioning.” In other words, follow through and trust the process!

An outtake from a personal project I have been working on this year. This shot inspires me to do a jewelry shoot in the future!

“I played around with perspective and heroic angles during this shoot. I was trying to see how I could use lens distortion to my advantage.”

While I was shooting Naked and Thriving I got inspired and created this shot based on a vision I had in my mind. I think it is important to still find moments to create for yourself, even when you’re creating for others.

Experimented with the background. I built a lightbox using hot pink plexiglass that I skewed more red in post. It was fascinating to see how light interacts with plexi.

This was a ‘just playing around test shoot’. I was trying to create a glowing light effect on the food. I wanted it to feel dreamy and hazy.”

We can’t wait to see what else Delane will create in 2025. Check out more of her work here: Delaney McQuown, OMS Photographer
